The southern end of Shaw gives way to high-end shopping mecca CityCenterDC and the retail-filled Penn Quarter & Chinatown neighborhood. The dining and bar scene in Shaw sizzles, with new spots opening up on 7th and 9th Streets and in the neighborhood's quirky, historic alleyways.

Luggage drop-off is OK and can be left either in the front of the unit, in the small covered entrance area, as you pass through the locked security gate but before front entry door to unit until the place is ready for check-in (or in the rear gated parking area if no precipitation is expected since it's outside and not covered).
9th Street has most things you need, from bakeries and coffee shops, to bars & restaurants, liquor stores, etc. For more serious nightlife, walk up to U Street. Try to avoid the intersection of 7&O because O Street gets crowded between 6&7th streets.
Bars: Dacha Beergarden: 7&O. Calico, The Dabney: Located in Blagden Alley on M or N between 8&9th. Bigger nightlife begins at U St. (walk North on NJ Ave, across Rhode Island, turn left onto Florida Ave and U St. begins at 9th.
The Cambria Hotel at 9&O has a rooftop bar for a quiet date spot. Likewise the Delegate has a quiet rooftop bar and is in the same building as Residence Inn Courtyard at 9&L.

Wine: Giant sells beer & wine. Grand Cata on 7th between P&Q for upscale wine from around the globe. There are many liquor stores nearby at 6&O, 4th&Florida, 5th & Rhode Island.
Parking : There is a gated off-street parking space that you may use to park, but please let me know in advance if you need it. The alley can be a challenge for those inexperienced with city driving.
