The Neighborhood
The H Street corridor has a long and storied history in Washington, DC. First built in 1849, it became one of the city's busiest commercial hubs in the mid-20th century, then saw its fortunes decline after the riots of 1968. Since 2000, the area has been the scene of a remarkable revitalization that has attracted many of DC's young professionals and families to make their homes here. Today, H Street features a vibrant nightlife, some of the city's best restaurants, and the family friendliness of Capitol Hill, DC's largest residential neighborhood - all just blocks from the US Capitol, monuments, and the heart of the city. We love living here, and we're sure you'll love visiting!
Getting Around
Walking is the best way to get around the Hill! If walking is not your cup of tea, take the free street car on H Street to Union station, where you can hop on the METRO. There is also a bike-share nearby. More details here below:
METRO-rail and subway: The closest stops are Union Station and NoMa Gallaudet, on the Red Line. The easiest way to get to the Metro is to take the free DC streetcar, which stops steps from your door and takes you a quick 7 blocks to Union Station.
Bus: The X2 line stops steps from your door and takes your right to the heart of downtown.
Bike: DC is a great biking city, and the Capital Bikeshare program makes it easy to rent as many bikes as you need on an hourly basis! The nearest stations are only block away, at either of 8th and F or H Streets NE.
Uber Lyft: Uber & Lyft response times are generally less than 5 minutes in the area.
Walking: DC is one of America's great walking cities - it's truly small enough to see on foot if you have the time! We're a 20 minute walk to the US Capitol, and just beyond are the National Mall and the monuments!
Scooters: Lime, Bird, Lyft, and Uber JUMP scooters (and bikes) are readily available on nearly every corner of the city wherever you can find one, rent them easily using their app and your smartphone.
Other Things to note
Guests can visit Jacob's Coffee house, a local favorite just a few blocks away. H Street has pretty much everything you need - restaurants like my family's favorite, Sol Mexican Grill, grocery stores like While Foods, great hair salons like Eden DC Salon, and even a locally-owned bookstore, Solid State Books.
